Learning how to train my reactive dogs so that we can adventure together.

Welcome!!!!!

This website is for women who would like to get outside and bring their pain-in-the-ass dogs along. When I adopted my dogs, I thought they were automatically going to be calm and happy hikers, bikers, campers, paddlers, etc., because LOOK AT ALL OF THIS EXERCISE WE'RE GETTING!!! Outside!! Not in a shelter!! But, it turns out that trying to take a bunch of reactive dogs to do Fun Outside Things is actually very hard and I will never ever again believe what I see on Instagram. On Instagram, a peaceful and fit hiker walks through the woods with her well-trained husky-mixes trotting off-leash around her in a controlled pack. My dogs, on the other hand, are attached to me by constantly-tangled leashes. They drag me unwillingly through the woods for miles while they bark, lunge, and scrap with every dog, squirrel, and bunny they see on the trail all while ignoring every command I've ever given in my whole life. Other hikers see us coming and hike the other way....Shoot, my own friends see us coming and clutch their nice, friendly, rescue dogs and run the other way. Honestly, I would probably run away if I saw me and my dogs coming, too. SO-I am an idiot; I overestimated my abilities, but here we are.  I don't want to spend the next 15 years locked in my house, so I am trying to learn how to train my dogs. That was the point, after all. I adopted them so I could train them and BOY OH BOY did I get my wish. It really has not been easy and I have made so much less progress than I hoped. But, I keep trying.

This blog is the continuing and never ending story of my attempt to train my dogs and get outside with them more.  Join me to learn about what has worked for us so far AND the  camping, hiking, and traveling adventures that we have been able to have together.  I am (very) slowly learning, and I hope my experiences can be helpful to others in the same position.
