We wanted to check out some of the hiking and beer in the southwestern part of Virginia and take Porter on his first road trip. This cool little hunting cabin was our home base. Nice owner; everything we needed.

My husband and I got married in Breck in 2019. We drove Porter across the country and stayed in this condo the week before the wedding, getting ready and enjoying walks around town.

We got married here in 2019. They are dog-friendly and we were able to leave Porter in the room during the wedding. (My cousin was in charge of checking on him every hour.) They were very accommodating; I specifically remember the wedding coordinator sticking her hand down Porter's throat as I was preparing to walk down the aisle because he had decided to try and eat a hunk of plastic that was laying around.

Chef's kiss. I miss this property. We stopped here on our way back across the country after our wedding. It was secluded and quiet and the perfect antidote to wedding craziness. The owner hosted us for a small wedding celebration happy hour when she learned we were newlyweds and she had a 3-year-old black lab she had just rescued that was running free in the fields. Against our better judgement, we also let Porter off leash to run free through the fields and somehow he did not disappear or snap at the owner's dog. We drove into Telluride to explore the town and resort and enjoyed nights here. Take me back.

Is it crooked? Yes. Does it need some curb appeal? Yes. Is it dog friendly? Yes. We stayed here for a few days in 2020. (Trip catalogued here.) We appreciated that this place was dog and budget friendly.
Damascus, VA (Hiking)

I rented this place over spring break so that I could take Gussie and Porter on a road trip. I was here by myself and felt totally comfortable. Every morning the dogs and I would walk to town and enjoy the sights. In the afternoons, we would go a drive and hike somewhere. Beautiful scenery; I wanted to move here afterwards. Make sure to watch the dogs in the yard as the fence is low on one side and the owners are fighting a battle with mole holes.
